Hey all, I wanted to give you guys some further instruction on how to connect to a CodeSpells server. Right now, the servers are hosted by players, not dedicated servers like in Minecraft or Garry's Mod.
To connect to a server, just connect to the user's external ip-address . That user MUST have the port 7777 open/forwarded.
To find your external IP Address, click here.
The website will also let you check which ports are open.
To figure out how to port forward, I would Google how to port forward. There are varying guides based on your router so I can't really supply a uniformal link. Also, ensure that the port allows UDP.
If you've done all of that and connecting still isn't working, that probably means you either have the incorrect external ip address and or your port (7777) is still closed.
Happy spell-casting =)
Do I need to forward port to join game? Also is it possible to play via fake lan like Tunngle without open port?
Yeah I think that's possible, you don't have to port forward, the host has to open his 7777 port.
Thanks for super fast reply.
Having problems hosting. I've forwarded my port and everything but it is still timing out.
Try downloading hamachi, that worked for me today. No lag.
This topic is now pinned globally. It will appear at the top of its category and all topic lists until it is unpinned by staff for everyone, or by individual users for themselves.
A friend and I have recently purchased code spells and were eager to start messing about making spells. We ran into problems trying to join each others games.
Now, we both had the port 7777 open on our routers and we also made extra rules in both in-bound and out-bound for the port 7777 on our firewalls even though we had seen CodeSpells.exe was in the firewall already. We have also tried disabling our firewalls with no luck.
My friend was some how able to join me twice so far after all the trouble. But after those 2 games, we were unable to connect to either end.
Is this this just an early access problem and it happens to everyone ?
Or am I the only one experiencing this ?
I am not sure why this is happening. Maybe check to ensure that the port 7777 is again? I feel like some router firmware may reset ports that aren't usually opened if they're inactive for a bit or if the router shuts off at all.
If none of that works, try using Hamachi to connect. That has been a sure fire way for it to work and because you're only playing with one person that should work fine!
Oh, also, your public IP address may have changed. Check that again.
I've got a NO-IP setup so can give my friends a hostname instead of IP. I did think that maybe the game does not resolve hostnames to ip addresses. So i gave my external IP to my friend and still no luck.
I've tried hamachi but no luck there as it says something is wrong with tunneling. And we can't seem to fix it no matter how hard we try googling the problem we find nothing that works.
One thing we both noticed is that when either of us opens a port on our router's. The port checker sites only tell us the port is open if we're actually connected to each other ( we're connected in a game or software ). Otherwise if there is no connection the site's will tell us the port is closed. ( he has a different router from me yet still same problem ).
I will ring my ISP in the morning and see what they think of the matter.
That is very odd.. maybe @a_lomo can help?
I'm not sure if this gives you any idea's. But when my friend try's to connect for the first time. After about 2 seconds it will goto the main menu. This will only happen once, the next time he tries to connect it will just keep on trying to connect forever.
No need to reply to above you can just ignore that. One question though " Are you guys going to get steam integration " so that we can join via steam ? (If so i really don't mind waiting for that to come out :D)
[EDIT] Ok nvm i got it to work. I opted out of nightly and now it works all of a sudden. So confused. But the question about steam integration. I'd like to know if thats a thing still
What if I am using the hour of code version?
How do I multplayer then?
