We've added a neat new tool:
Body parts that deteriorate and get destroyed in different ways.
We also made it easier for you to kill monsters with physical objects. Before, you couldn't actually slam monsters into the ground to kill them.
In this video below I've implemented the body part deterioration as "spell mines". The rock parts cast explode when the player or other monsters collide with them. Sorry for the non-edited video, I don't have working video editing software at the moment, and youtube's was unusable for me at the time.
It's like walking through a field of landmines. Except it's only a field of landmines because you're protecting yourself. And every time you kill a threat, even more landmines pop up and you're in even more danger than before.
Yeah haha. There's definitely more mines created than can be destroyed in this run. I was trying it with 10 mob spawners and stuff got crazy fast. The mines that the dead ones were creating were blowing up the respawns really quickly. Funny enough, I haven't played too much with actually building my own spells yet. Is there a "Vacuum" spell to your knowledge? It would be pretty cool to have a big minefield, and a monster, and cast a vacuum centered on the monster so all the mines get sucked onto him.
It's worth mentioning that these changes will probably not be released as is. They are mainly just to test out the tools we're building. We'd really like to stimulate some ideas or feedback surrounding them. For example, here we have the ability to break off body parts of destroyed object, each of which have the ability to cast spells in their own right. It's implemented as "Rock golem parts released on death cast explosion when you get close enough to them". Can you think of any other ideas using these sorts of tools?
Not aware of any vacuum-style spells, though it'd be pretty easy to make one with Air magic. Might build one tomorrow night after work. As for other ideas for the destructible creatures, you could have a creature that essentially spawns an egg when it dies. In other words, one of the destructible body parts would be set to spawn a new creature after a set amount of time - basically create a phoenix-like effect. The only way to keep that creature down for good would be to somehow nullify the egg's ability to spawn a new creature.
That'd be awesome if you made a vacuum spell! I could then use it to help jump start my own spell-making adventures.
Nice idea with the body parts that turn into other creatures. It's almost like Asteroids. If a spell could summon a creature, then that would be really easy.
Maybe Stephen and Jason will see this and pipe in, or else I can run it my them when we meet on Monday to see if I could start it right away.
I'll get working on that spell right away then. I'll publish it and make a post about it once I'm done with it.
Just finished it. In its current form, it brings the objects to your look point, but it could easily be modified to bring them to a target.
