(wonders if Wizardess is even a word lol)
If it wasn't before, it is now.
Hello there. The idea of custom coding spells has fascinated me since Elder Scrolls. yes the first one and I am not old. I am wise So I happened on this, watched a couple videos and was in awe. Had somebody actually done it? A dream game? Well I took the bait and have been hooked since. Even put in an all day binge sesh.
I love the suggestion of wandering around and thinking "ok, if I could use magic, what would I do?" Of course the firs thing was think ooooh summon a wisp. So I did. It didn't move. So I gave it a bit of a mind of its own, frowned at the sharp turns and my journey has begun in organic pathing and environmental reactions by orbs. I even have a prototype of sniffer wisps and hunter wisps that are summoned together and if the sniffer touches something it tells the hunter to blast it. Tons of fun that one is.
I am having so much fun, I am starting to create orb templates with switches for some basic things I would like all my orbs to be able to do. Left or right handed orb summon, pathing specific to the element based on old alchemic symbols etc. Yep like I said hook, line and sinker.
Study and create, it is what you are destined to do!
I've always been interested in creating spells that act like they're alive, and I really like the idea of groups of wisps. I hadn't thought of it before, but I may start implementing herds of orb "creatures" - thanks for the idea! CodeSpells is definitely one of those all-in kind of games. Glad you've joined us! (And we're very welcoming of new words here. I'm pretty sure we've already coined one or two that will eventually be considered standard English words)
Thank you for the warm welcome.
I look forward to the multiplayer aspect of this game. Granted, I have a vision of something like a grand sandbox with locations to visit and such. The spells being the main part of course. So far, it more like a coding exploration. Very alone though. That is why I made the Wisp's to be honest lol. Shame they only live for a minute. Though I guess I could chain cast them and have a generator of them... hmmm Now to find a good world seed with a nice grove that I can populate teehee.
If you're interested in getting into black magic, you can extend an orb's lifetime indefinitely. If you do that though, make sure to build in a kill switch or you'll never get rid of them. Multiplayer is going to be much more streamlined as of the next update, and while they won't be adding multiplayer sandbox just yet (or at least they didn't mention it as something they would be releasing yet), we'll be getting much more flexibility in the multiplayer servers instead of just being stuck in the four arenas we have now.
Yeah, not really into the Eval thing to be honest. I look at the blocky tool as a sort of "natural order of things". While it has its limits, and should in my opinion, there is so much you can do already.
I do hope we will be able to sandbox multiplayer. I also really enjoy the arena map and think ti would be a riot to actually play. Is it stable with 3v3? Leagues would be fun. Have a Stock league that can use the cookie cutter spells. Have an Unlimited league that is free form spells (no eval or black magic, all spells must have a visual etc). You could even set up things like setting limits to how many spheres you can use per Wizard to add an even deeper level of strategy etc.
So many ways to enjoy this environment.
